Is Personal Development Underrated?

Personal development is an essential life skill required for growth in all sectors. Most people believe that personal development is developing a particular skill of a person. This is correct and wrong as well.

Correct in the sense, personal development works best after a person analyses himself so working on a particular strength will always be the key, but to make it sound like a pastime activity is absolutely wrong. Learning guitar is a small part of personal development but it doesn’t affect your overall growth much. It does make you happy so you should definitely continue doing so.

On a serious note, there are many weak areas of a person which can be easily highlighted in terms of interviews and feedback. Personal development skills will help you work on your weak areas for a better final product called growth. Some important aspects which will help you towards developing, maintaining and utilizing personal development skills are discussed below

Accept Change and Feedback

There are 2 things common in negative feedback and change – both are important but are not taken in the way it should be. Ask yourself a question – if you are expecting only positive feedback, then why was the system of feedback and analysis invented? Change is the only thing constant. You need to understand that change is necessary and you should accept it. Analyze change and check how you would benefit from it.

Be Responsible

Not only personal development skills, but being responsible about your actions makes you a responsible person. Being responsible is being honest.

Consider this: you are appointed for a particular task. You promise someone that a particular report would be in his inbox by a particular time. But due to some reasons, the report gets delayed. You have your answers ready but the person doesn’t buy them. Both are correct, you may have a genuine reason for delay but you created the expectations. Learn to accept your responsibility; actually it is advised to talk straight in the present tense rather than hearing unpleasant reviews in the future tense.

Prioritize Personal Development

It is true as any type of learning will help you in some way or the other, but you need to prioritize. Important personal development skills should be learned first.

The Tenure

They say, learning never ceases; no doubt about it. Learning is a continuous process and this leads to lifelong personal development. Always do things keeping the future in mind.

Pat Your Back after Completion

Personal development skills give you many opportunities where you will do well; pat your back after, something like this happens. When you fail to live to the expectations, never take it as failure but analyze it as to how can you avoid it in future.

Personal development leads to growth and this can be distributed in stages or moments; be happy in your moments of glory and learn from other experiences.

Lastly, be patient as the fruits of personal development come with time.
